Please note: this timeline is (eternally) under construction, and is therefore incomplete. If you find a problem, please let me know.
A significant source for this timeline is Paul Tillich: His Life & Thought by Wilhelm and Marion Pauck. While this book is no longer in print, there are usually copies available through a number of sources, including Amazon.
In the Cambridge Companion to Paul Tillich, the scholar Erdmann Sturm quotes Tillich as saying “First, read my sermons!” when asked about his theology. Although that quote is uncited, it is commonly believed to be accurate by those who study Tillich. There are three books of his sermons which were published by Tillich in his lifetime, and they are truly the best place to begin studying him:
- 1948 – The Shaking of the Foundations
- 1955 – The New Being
- 1963 – The Eternal Now
