This quote pops up from time to time on social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest), as well as various sites that offer quotations, and the general attribution suggests that the great C.S. Lewis gave it to us:

Love is never wasted, for its value does not rest upon reciprocity.

That sounds like something Lewis would write, but I have yet to find it anywhere, including in his writings and in the rather wonderful compendium of Lewis quotes – which actually include specific sources – entitled The Quoteable Lewis. I’ll keep my eyes open for this one, but it does not appear accurate.
